Tired of fruitless courting, NY fruits return to court
Today in NY, one of the three cases challenging the constitutionality of banning 'mo marriage for state residents will be heard in the Appellate Division of the state Supreme Court. This particular suit, which is being argued by the ACLU on behalf of twelve queer couples, is an appeal of a decision made last December in which a judge ruled that only the legislature could decide whether gay nuptials can proceed in the Empire State.
If this judge goes against the prior ruling and finds the state's marriage ban to be horse dung, he/she is, of course, brilliant. Should the robe wearer say "no way, homo-gay," then he/she is of, course, misguided. In the event the judge likes Mel Torme, magic tricks, and Christine Sullivan, then he is, of course, Harry Stone, and we miss his weekly doses of comedic antics terribly.
To NY marriage fighters we say: Good luck and hurry the hell up. Sure this whole domestic partnership thing is nice (even if the certificate does cost a dollar more than a marriage license), but unfortunately domestic partnership registries are lacking at most fine retailers. We're getting no younger, and neither the Williams Sonoma salad bowl set nor Espresso machine are getting any cheaper.
