In which we take advantage of 'pro' and 'banner's dual meanings

Due to its size and "possible aesthetic effects on the historic facade of the church," the Quincy Historic District Commission of Quincy, Mass., has denied a request by the United First Parish Church to hang a pro-gay marriage banner on the front of their building.

Confusing us, as we thought most who dedicate their professional lifes to banning gay marriage were actually sorta small. Now, we don't really see what stringing them up on top of the church for public display is gonna do for the cause, but hey -- everyone has their own methods of activism. Some piss off professional gay marriage banners by tying them on top of churches until they beg to come down, while others completely misinterpret a news story in order to (hopefully) bring a smile to the faces of a community that could oftentimes use one. Tomato, tomahto.

The commission voted 3-2 against a 30-day permit to hang the banner; hopefully the the church will find a less tall and portly one to serve as a replacement.
