Headline you'll need to read twice, as you'll think it's a mistake: Conservative Christian group lashes out against marriage amendment

by Jeremy Hooper

So here's one for you -- the extremely gay-unfriendly folks at the Traditional Values Coalition pointedly abstained from attending Bush's televised anti-Pride parade today and are NOT supporting the proposed federal marriage amendment, because they say the measure still allows "for civil unions and other forms of counterfeit marriage, which are one small step from full marriage rights for homosexuals." Speaking against those religious conservatives who support the amendmnt, TVC's Louis Sheldon says:

"These people are supposed to dig their heels in and refuse to compromise when it comes to principle. They are supposed to be the voices for those working people across America who can’t come to Washington to be heard. But that’s not what they did. They have acted like auctioneers who have tried to make the best deal for votes and, in the end, they have abandoned the principled defense of marriage and are still nowhere near the votes needed to pass this amendment.

They talk tough rhetoric and bluster about changing Washington but, where it counts, Washington has changed them.

To which we'd simply like to reply, "Well ya know Louis -- we heard from Don, who said he heard from James, that Tony told him that Frist said that Condoleeza called you a poop face. Ya gonna take that? We wouldn't. FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT."

It's unclear as to how TVC would like the marriage-banning amendment to read, so as to make it even "bannier;" however, it's seem that wording along the lines of: "Gay people. Anything resembling equality. Yea, that's unacceptable." would be their ideal.

MARRIAGE AMENDMENT DOES MORE TO PROMOTE CIVIL UNIONS THAN PROTECT MARRIAGE [TVC]
