Raw Deal: Schwarzenegger & Co. reportedly hire TVC operative
In order to gain evangelical support for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the California Republican party has reportedly hired Benjamin Lopez, a lobbyist for the virulently anti-gay Traditional Value Coalition. And just so you're not confused, we're talking about he the same Traditional Value Coalition that publishes things like this:
"Americans should understand that their attitudes about homosexuality have been deliberately and deceitfully changed by a masterful propaganda/marketing campaign that rivals that of Adolph Hitler. In fact, many of the strategies used by homosexuals to bring about cultural change in America are taken from Hitler's writings and propaganda welfare manuals."
And as for Benjamin Lopez, himself -- this is the same man who California Assemblyman Mark Leno last year credited for causing Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to veto AB 849, the bill that would have legalized gay marriage in the state. A credit to which Lopez boldly responded:
"To be given specific credit by Mark Leno for the ultimate defeat of his same-sex marriage bill is an honor,"... "Leno proves that the pro-family churches and people of California that I represent in the halls of Sacramento on behalf of TVC are a formidable force."
"Californians need to wake up to what these liberals are doing," ... "I must say this again, there is the saying 'As California goes, so goes the nation,' well, Democrats are thumbing their nose at the traditional family unit and in effect they are saying 'To hell with the family! California is going to glorify homosexuality,' and I only hope it will come back to haunt them. We will do all we can to expose this systematic attempt to normalize homosexuality into the mainstream and their efforts to cram it down our throats."
Wow, Arnold -- when you go right, you go very, very wrong. It seem to us that there's a vast difference between reaching out to conservative voters and reaching into the pot of extreme organized hate. But hey, what do we know? After all, we're too busy with our "arrogant, underhanded and sleazy attempt to undermine marriage" to focus on little else.
It's unclear what other moves Schwarzenegger & Co. will make to shore up far right voters. However, if he wants to cut out the middle man, we suggest he just start point blank telling all gays and those who oppose extreme queer demonization to just go ahead and vote for Angelides, as actions like this are already doing that job anyway.
