Headline we never expected to write: Conservative criticizes Fox News' gay-friendliness

Since the network has donated $10,000 as a sponsor of this weekend's National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association convention, Peter LaBarbera is asking Fox News Channel to give his Americans For Truth organization a matching donation. LaBarbera says:

“FOX News cannot claim to be ‘fair and balanced’ in its coverage of homosexuality while providing large grants to a special interest group like the [NLGJA] that demonizes religious conservatives and, worse, seeks to influence the media nationwide to exclude conservative critics of the homosexual political/cultural agenda from gay-related stories.

“A balancing grant to AFT or a like-minded pro-family organization would signal that Fox News Channel is committed to living up to its credo and not taking sides in the Culture War. It would also … show respect for the tens of millions of Americans who do not deserve to be likened to the KKK simply for adhering to historic Judeo-Christian beliefs.”

Oh, Peter, so silly you are! Perhaps if you start a convention training "pro-family" journalists on all the many ways one can say "I simply don't care for gays" without actually saying it, then some folks will hop on board? You've certainly got the "we want to protect children, families, and marriage" vernacular down. It's worth a shot, big guy!

Though there is a silver lining for Peter, as we hear that In lieu of honoring his request for a donation, Fox is instead considering giving him Geraldo. Priceless, that mustachioed gift!
