Sticks and stones may break my bones, but FOF -- your actions hurt plenty
From Focus on the Family's review of the movie Hollywoodland:
Yet it's a bit ironic that an organization that considers gays to be sinners, militantly encourages gays to "change" their sexuality, uses studies to back up their "gay-changing" claims in ways contrary to the researchers' own wishes, works tirelessly to ban gay marriage, accuses any politician who supports gay rights of backing a "radical agenda," boycotts companies that encourage diversity, and lashes out against any and every gay-friendly movie, would themselves consider disparaging "terms for homosexuals" to be "crude or profane." After all, it would seem a little disingenuous for one group to condemn anti-gay epithets when the rhetoric they themselves espouse are a major reason such hurtful labels are still regurgitated in modern society.
"Anti-gay" is not in-born! It's consumption of biased Kool-Aid that leads one to spew the bile, not the other way around.
Now, we do truly believe FOF is opposed to the words that we all recognize to be anti-gay slurs. However, their endgame is seemingly a "gay-less" world! Call us crazy, but we find that far more disturbing than we do an uninformed person demonstrating their ignorance by calling us a "fag." So while we thank FOF for recognizing the ugliness of derogatory terms, we remain hopeful that they'll soon come to realize that aggressively gay-unfriendly actions speak louder than anti-gay words.
