Picture 4-21 Despite receiving approval from Senate Judiciary Committee last week, Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Janet T. Neff's nomination to the federal bench is reportedly being held up by conserva-Senator Sam Brownback, because of the revelation that Neff was present at a 2002 commitment ceremony for a Massachusetts lesbian couple. According to the AP, Brownback wants to know if there was anything illegal about the ceremony and to gauge how Neff's actions may shape her judicial philosophy.

But before you get any ideas, Mr. Brownback: Two ladies kissing is not against the law!

So is Mr. Brownback embarking on the inquisition because he doesn't care for gay marriage or because he's not so fond of liberals? Yes, probably.
