Harvey: The folks I spend my life demonizing sometimes have trouble finding employers who won't follow my lead and also demonize them

by Jeremy Hooper

Good As You Images Good As You Images Docs Harvey-1In a piece on gay-focused chambers of commerce, Focus on the Family's CitizenLink quotes outspoken anti-gay personality Linda Harvey as saying:

Linda Harvey, president of Mission America, said even though the gay community brags about its buying power, the bravado is often more myth than muscle.

"
The vast majority of people involved in homosexuality are projected by many studies to be people that are employed sporadically, because of their lifestyle," she said. "They are more unstable.

But here's what Ms. Harvey conveniently DOESN'T tell you: The few reputable studies that genuinely do show a disparity in gay employment cite pervasive bias, gay folks opting "for lower paying positions or careers so that they can be out at work without harassment," gay youth who are left homeless and unemployed due to family abandonment, and the widespread job discrimination faced by the transgender population as primary reasons why discrepancies in LGBT employment may be seen. You know, the exact sort of inequality that Ms. Harvey and her cronies at Focus on the Family work to keep alive. So while it's convenient for her to say there are "many studies" showing gay people "are employed sporadically, because of their lifestyle," what the scant amount of studies on the topic actually show is that it's HER "lifestyle" that propagates the vast majority of the problems LGBT people face in corporate America.

After all, Ms. Harvey, would you hire a gay person?

"Open or suspected homosexuals should never be elected. The problem with homosexuals is that they frequently don't have common sense and don't acknowledge appropriate boundaries. Weird sex, public displays of "affection" and nudity, and sex with youth are built into the "gay" sub-culture. Witness any pride parade, stroll around any predominantly "gay" neighborhood, or visit "GLBT" websites and you quickly see the problem." [Ms. Harvey writing for WorldNetDaily, 10/3/06]

We rest our case.
