In case you were confused, Ensign and Reid are NOT Gyllenhaal and Ledger
Senate Majority Leader-elect Harry Reid is quoted by the AP as saying of his relationship with fellow Nevada Senator John Ensign:
"He's a Republican, I'm a Democrat, we work together on issues that are important to the state of Nevada. And I wish other people had the same nonaggression pact we have," Reid told reporters. "It's not a 'Brokeback Mountain' situation," he added, referring to last year's film about two gay cowboy lovers.
Which is a little weird, as we didn't realize anyone was assuming, implying, or even thinking theirs was a "Brokeback" situation. After all, everyone knows they share a partnership much more closely mirroring The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert.
Obviously.
Be sure to look for more congressional statements later this afternoon, where we hear Kansas senator Pat Roberts will describe how his relationship with his fellow delegate is, in fact, a "Brownback situation."
