No Child 'Left Behind': Mass. parents seeks church/state reconciliation

by Jeremy Hooper

Speaking on the gay-unfriendly Mass Resistance radio show this past weekend, David Parker, the Massachusetts parent who caused a stink in 2005 when his kindergarten-aged kid was given a diversity-encouraging book to read and who has subsequently become an anti-gay activist, said of gay equality being encouraged in schools:

They can talk about two brides getting married, but they can't discuss the church as the wedding bride of Christ. They can talk about two fathers being together and kissing, but there can be no discussion of our heavenly father. They'll give testimony on how to claim a homosexual identity, but the schools won't allow religious testimony on how to escape it. So you can see that in a sense, this human secularism, basically they're preaching that there are no boundaries of sexual expression, marriage, or now even gender, you know, and what this is, it becomes a substitute theology which is basically filling the vacuum created by removing God from the public square.

But see, this just gives more insight into these kids' inability to accept and respect that their religious beliefs are THEIR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS! LGBT acceptance is not "a substitute theology," but rather an idea that exists independent of any and all religious conviction. All of Mr. Parker's above comparisons ( "two men sometimes love each other" vs. "there is one true Chirstian God," etc.) pit scientific/biolgical realties against personal interpretations of the Bible. The two are apples and Adam's apples!

It continually blows the mind how combative our opposition generally is to the idea of the separation of church and state, and how they refuse to see that even if their individual faith condemns gays to hell, homosexuality is a true part of the the human condition that is not going anywhere anytime soon! Schools aren't slowly starting to expand their definitions of society to include gay folks because they have some sort of political agenda; they are doing so because SOCIETY INCLUDES GAY FOLKS! It is the job of public schools to present accurate representations of the public, and the job of churches to present a particular congregation/denomination's adopted theology. Until "acceptance of Jesus as your savior" is placed in the U.S. Constitution (::writer bites tongue::), this will always be the case!

Mr. Parker, we don't doubt for a second that you want what is best for your child. We just wish you could see that the prefix of our system of government is "demo" not "theo."
