If it displeases the court: Phelps threatens to sue the government

by Jeremy Hooper

On Dec. 7, the Senate approved “The Respect for the Funerals of Fallen Heroes Act,” which, if passed by Congress and signed by the president, would further limit Westboro Baptist Church from protesting at military funerals. A congressional action that prompted the following reply from Westboro:

Picture 2-46

And we think we speak for everyone when we say: Can you believe this disgusting transgression? I mean, seriously -- just look at the way Mr. Phelps punctuated his middle initial! A comma, Fred? Uhm, last time we checked, it was a period that one uses to set his abbreviated middle name from his first and last monikers. Come on, Mr. Phelps! Have you no sense of respect or decency? What are America's children gonna learn from you if you keep passing off such impropriety as fact?

After all -- God hates improper punctuation!

But getting back to the legislation: This new bill would expand on the "Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act," a measure passed in Congress and signed by Bush back in May that bans demonstrations at only federal cemeteries. Jointly, the two government actions will work under the umbrella name: "Holy Mother of Batsh* Insanity, Can You Believe We Actually Have to Spend Time Trying To Prevent People From Protesting At Funerals With Signs Saying Things Like 'God Killed Your Kids' and 'Thank God For Dead Soldiers'??!?!"

The Founding Father would be proud.
