Video: Pressin' Bush on Mary

From today's press conference, President Bush expands on his thoughts regarding Mary Cheney's womb:

You've always said we should "review law to make sure that people are treated fairly?" Really, Mr. B?? You mean like the way you've "reviewed the law" on marriage and routinely tried to "make sure" that it unfairly bans couples like Mary Cheney and Heather Poe from equal access? Or when you "reviewed the law" on same-sex adoptions and determined that ''Studies have shown that the ideal is where a child is raised in a married family with a man and a woman," even when these credible studies don't exist? What, were you just trying to show us was unfair treatment looks like in the first six years of your presidency so that when you turn over a new leaf in the last two years we'll have somewhere to turn for comparison?

Mr. Bush, it's great that you mumble some sort of commitment to fairness in order to dodge and move on. But considering you have fostered the sort of culture that will both keep Heather (Mary's partner for 15 years) legally estranged both both her lover and the child that the two will jointly raise, we have a hard time believing you really even know the definition of the word "fair." They say that just knowing a gay person is the best way for one to open their hearts to acceptance. Here's hoping that exposure to Ms. Cheney's family will lead you to redeem what little bit of your civil rights legacy that can still be salvaged.
