MD sex-ed won't be tarnished by concept opposed by most MDs
The school board of Montgomery County, MD, has unanimously approved new sex education curriculum for middle and high school students that will teach the young'uns about sexual orientation. But despite the two years of attempts from the folks at PFOX (Parents & Friends of Ex-gays), the curriculum will not teach the students about "ex-gays."
And people say public schools have lost their way...
Naturally, those opposed to gay rights and supportive of the flawed, discredited notion that gays can change are less-than-happy with the new safe sex-encouraging, gay-inclusive curriculum. But then again -- they are supportive of the flawed, discredited notion that gays can change! "Non-extremist views on sex eduction" wouldn't really seem to be a subject in which they earned an "A"!
Controversy or no, the new opt-in program will be introduced on a "pilot" basis this spring in three of the area's schools. Look for PFOX to try and ground the pilot by summer.
