Ooh, what Schmels? Must be that rank bias stinking up the joint again!

by Jeremy Hooper

Picture 14-10This Friday, hearings will begin on whether or not Pastor Brad Schmeling can remain at the pulpit of Atlanta's St. John's Lutheran Church. But why is his role being contested you ask? Well, because he declared that he has Satan living inside of him and that he is trying to destroy the church from within. Obviously.

Wait, what's that? No, he actually just entered into a committed relationship with another man, which is considered a violation of the laws of the Lutheran Church? And despite the fact that his congregation wants him to stick around, the church could still vote him out simply because he is designed to love in a non-heterosexual manner?

Oh. Well that's a steaming crock of bullsh*t! And here we thought that in order to get defrocked, one actually had to do something, oh, I don't know -- WRONG!?! ::sigh::

We'll have to wait a few weeks to see if Schmeling gets to remain at the helm of St. John's (a post he's held for six years). Unfortunately, we'll probably have to wait a few decades for situations such as this become benign and undebated.
