But by 'wipe this stench out,' he of course means it in the nice Christian way

by Jeremy Hooper

Remember last week when social conservatives were thoroughly chastising Pam Spaulding because of threatening comments that a pro-gay activist had made (unbeknownst to her)on her site? And when everyone on their side was so quick to assert that extremism exists only the pro-gay side of this "culture war"? Well, consider this, a response to an article decrying transgender awareness programs being introduced into Maine public schools, which was posted to the public forum of the Christian Civic League of Maine:

Stormblaine

Now, for those who aren't aware, the Blaine House is the governor's mansion of Maine. That being the case, there is something about the "wipe the stench out" language of this message that we find slightly disturbing (considering it is merely the residence of Gov. Baldacci and his family).

Did "Dan from Portland" literally mean he wants to "wipe out" Baldacci? Probably not. However, it would seem to us that folks on every side of this "issue" should be careful about letting their emotions turn their words into statements that could be seen as genuinely threatening.
