Gramley gunnin' for gay gatherin'

by Jeremy Hooper

Good As You Images Activism Images Diane GramleyOur ol' tango partner Diane Gramley is up to her gay-unfriendly antics once again. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania president is this time lashing out against Alegheny College (which is affiliated with the Methodist Church) for holding a two-day Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Colloquium. Gramley has gone so far as to call on the school's president “to intervene and not promote the homosexual lifestyle through the upcoming colloquium,” and to declare that "Institutions of higher education that claim to have Christian ties need to get back to what Scripture says about homosexual acts: they are sin."

Just an understanding peach, she. I mean, seriously -- why in the hell should an institution of learning have discussions on issues that affect so many? What do they think they are, a place to foster knowledge and dialogue? Honestly, Allegheny -- shape up!

[::dramatic eye roll, exasperated head shake::]

It remains to be seen if Gramley's grumblings will have any affect on the event (which begins today). Though considering we knew nothing about it until she stirred up a stink fit, we think the Colloquium should hire Ms. Gramley to PR the damn thing.

Your thoughts

Supressing discussion is typical. A dissenting voice might be heard, after all, and that voice just might have the weight of some sense. Clearly that is the last thing these church ladies want. Fear-based bible thumping.
