Out like a Knight
Jason Knight, the openly gay Naval petty officer who was discharged under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" but then mysteriously reinstated to active duty, has been officially discharged from the U.S. armed forces once again. Steve Ralls of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Fund (SLDN) reports that Knight has emailed him to say he has received his official governemt-sanctioned discharge papers, with his gayness being cited as the reason for his (second) booting.
Finally answering our question, "Is there anything more offensive than being refused the opportunity to serve your country because of who you are?" For now we see there is: Being refused that opportunity TWICE!!
::sigh::
But remember to hold on to and possibly frame your papers and assorted memorabilia, Mr. Knight. For you are now not only the victim of unjust, un-American discrimination; you are also an anomaly among that club. That will surely guarantee you your own wing in the American Museum of Historical Missteps (right next to the Hall of Gay Marriage Bans)!
