Chastise Baptists and you're 'militant,' chastise Mormons and you're 'evangelical'

by Jeremy Hooper

Below is a headline from the Christianity Today blog, summing up a recent Christian Post article regarding "ex-gay" Michael Glatze:

Picture 1-92

Better Mormon than gay? They're now ranking where, exactly, one fits on the spectrum of acceptability (using factors as disparate as religion and sexual orientation)? And what exactly is their scale, something like this:

Scale

Seriously, has their view of religious freedom and those who make up society become so myopic that they see no offense in saying, "Well, he puts in his faith in Joseph Smith, but at least he doesn't put his willy in Joe the town 'mo"? They accuse gays of being hostile towards religion, yet they are the ones who are most hostile to any religion that isn't Jesus-y enough!! They are the ones who think one's moral compass is only properly tuned if it points to their specific way of thinking! And regardless of your personal religious views, it's quite easy to see why this self-erected moral pedestal is harmful to a non-theocratic, religious freedom-loving nation!

But what do we know? We pray at the temple of Degeneres.

***UPDATE, 7/20: Sorry for the egregious "your"/"you're" error that was in the headline! This writer posted this entry and then immediately left for the day, never looking back or proofreading until the AM.

Ugh, embarrassing!

Your thoughts

Actually, this is reason to celebrate! It reinforces my hope that should former Gov. Stepford I mean Romney get the Prez nom or even VP there is still a chance the most extreme religionists will sit out the election [they will NOT vote Democrat].

As for Matt Barber, the guy from the so-called Concerned Women for America allegedy advising Glatze and urging him away from the Church of Latter Day Fascists, check out his rabid homohatred at: http://www.renewamerica.us/columns/mbarber

He's just an obscene scrawled sign, a sidewalk, and a herd of inbred youngins from Fred Phelps.

Oh man, I guess I am totally going the wrong way as I went from Mormon to Mo...

What we need to remember is that in God's eyes, a sin is a sin is a sin. It's not a matter of being a "worse" sinner than the other guy, because we are all sinners. God's standard is perfection, and in His eyes, a liar is the same as Hitler. So a true evangelical wouldn't say "well john is doing THIS, but at least he isn't doing THIS..."

No John, that is what YOU need to remember. Others of us see a big difference between a liar and Hitler.

Tangentially, re: Michael: On the one hand, I despise that a lot of flak being slung at Romney because of his religion, and the perverse amount of media attention being paid his religious affiliation as if it, alone, would morally disfigure an otherwise qualified candidate.

On the other hand, I don't think he's an 'otherwise qualified' candidate, I find his inability to stand by his views distasteful, and the Big Dig freaking sucks. Seriously, it's practically a monument of inefficiency. Don't ever drive in Boston; take the T instead.

What's Glatze up to, anyway? He hasn't made much news in a while, has he? Which would mean that if it's a media stunt, it's not a particularly effective one...

Marie: Glatze is still trying to get attention. For the most part, the majority of us who cover such things have agreed to not feed the beast.
