NARTH's 'Clift' notes

Picture 3-61In their never-ending quest to blame homosexuality on family dynamic, the "ex-gay"-encouraging folks at NARTH (National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality) are stealthily yet clumsily using a new biography of late actor Montgomery Clift to back up their "distant father, overbearing mother" homosexuality root claims. Reviewer Linda Nicolosi has strung together key, convenient sections of biographer Patricia Bosworth's literary work, letting NARTH's gay-unfriendly agenda inform her every word. Check it out:

The Story of Montgomery Clift [NARTH]

But maybe they're just interested in old film stars, not in demonizing gays, you say? Well, if there's any doubt that NARTH is working from an agenda-laden place in their review of Bosworth's book, just look at how their ally Peter LaBarbera is presenting the piece on his Americans For Truth site:

Picture 2-81

And of course as is always the case in these situations, neither Nicolosi nor LaBarbera ever for a second consider the fact that maybe, just maybe, Monty Clift was distant from his father, close to his mother, sensitive, close to his sister, isolated from male peers, and gentle because of his own DNA. They always work from the place that blames the family dynamic for the personality, not the personality for the family dynamic. It's so short-sighted (not to mention mean-spirited)!

But hey, why should reasoned consideration get in the way of polarizing judgement?

Your thoughts

It's just another example of an author apologizing for the homo or bisexuality of a famous person. Once, I'd even like to read a book about Oscar Wilde (of all people) that doesn't try to blame someone or something for the fact that the man was a Victorian gay man. It's all really absurd and a reason that people unfamiliar with the realities of sexual orientation should get better advice when they are writing biographies.
