Putting out an APB on AP BS

Okay, so this is just weird. The Christian Post has today presented a commentary from "ex-gay" Tim Wilkins, wherein the religious personality discusses the American Psychological Association task force that has been set up to study that organization's dealings with those who wish to "change" their sexual orientation. Basically the commentary is just the usual stuff from the "ex-gay" community, with Mr. Wilkins trying to muddy the waters between religious freedom and scientific reality, so we really have nothing to say on it.

Here, however, is the weird part: Look at how Christian Post has attributed the column:

Uhm, "Associated Press Writer"? Did Mr. Wilkins get a new gig of which we're not aware? Has the AP added an "ex-gay" bureau? What gives, Christian Post? IS this just a simple (albeit very bizarre) mistake, or is it an attempt to give more credence to these claims?

We've contacted the CP folks, so we'll let you know what's up when we hear back.

**UPDATE, 7/29: Alright, looks like there's nothing to see here. This reply from a staffer at The Christian Post:

Yes, thank you. It meant to say “Christian Post Contributor” but the wrong tag was assigned to the article. We appreciate your e-mail.
...

The reason that happened is because the check box for “Associated Press Writer” and “Christian Post Contributor” are right next to each other. So if the eyes of person who submits the article misalign, then … tada! It’s happened before in the past, but usually someone catches it soon after.

Your thoughts

You should try bringing this to the attention of someone at the Associated Press. I really don't think they would appreciate this kind of think.

(If, on the other hand, they're ok with, maybe I'll starting crediting my own articles that way.)
