Attn. all closeted GOP lawmakers: Please just come out now!

by Jeremy Hooper

Picture 5-77Well, Mike Rogers may have been right once again. Senator Larry Craig (R-Idaho), who Rogers has outed as a closeted gay man over the past year, was reportedly arrested back in June for "lewd conduct" complaints in a men's public restroom:

LARRY CRAIG ARRESTED FOR MEN'S ROOM SEX IN JUNE... PLED GUILTY!!! [BlogActive]

Sadly, if Craig truly is a closeted gay man, this is not a surprising development. Because despite what Jim Naugle would have you believe, anonymous gay restroom sex (or solicitation thereof) is far more a sign of a painful life in a shame-filled closet than it it a sign of "gay promiscuity." And Craig's GOP buddies have surely tossed around enough of the gay-shaming rhetoric to keep the sex lives of the whole of their gay membership confined to places other than the bedroom.

For their part, Craig's camp has described the arrest as a "he said/ he said misunderstanding," and have announced that they will have some sort of "explanation" at some point today. Since we've read the incident report, we'd be lying if we said our suspicions were anything other than:

HE 1: Wanted Sex
HE 2: Wanted to make an arrest
THE MISUNDERSTANDING: Neither was in favor of the other's desired goal

In the sense of fairness, we will wait to hear whatever sort of spin his PR person is currently concocting Craig's heartfelt explanation. However, we really wish he'd quit delaying it. After all, isn't "stalling" what (allegedly) got him in this mess in the first place?

**UPDATE: If Larry gets case of the scandal, Mitt not gonna catch it [G-A-Y]
