Good news for 'Lawrence can sass,' town drama queen

Today in Lawrence, Kansas, the state's first ever domestic partnership registry goes into effect:

Lawrence’s domestic partner registry is the first in the state [AP via The Kansan]

Like some other of the nation's DP registries, this one grants no actual legal rights to those (gay or straight) couples who participate. However, it will make it easier for local couples to prove to their employers that they are in a committed relationship, and that they should qualify for any sort of partner benefits their companies may offer.

Of course a much easier way to allow for this is TO LEGALIZE F***ING MARRIAGE!!!!!! But hey, neither beggars nor decent, loving, committed, tax-paying couples who should be as entitled to fairness and equality as their heterosexual counterparts can be choosers, right?
