BREAKING: Stephen Bennett bought one car instead of another!

Stephen Files Image017Stephen Bennett, professional "former homosexual," needed to buy a car for his traveling team of "ex-gays." And apparently, his consumer automotive decisions now constitute a "pro-family" news story. This from One News Now:

Bennett says he contacted Ford's corporate office and was able to speak with an assistant to Bill Ford, Jr. He says he was offered a generous discount and was able to share his testimony with the assistant. However, after visiting the company's website, he found that if "we wanted to apply for a gift from Ford, that if we did not agree with their diversity policies, don't even bother applying."

The ministry leader says Ford's diversity policies meant his ministry could not purchase a Ford vehicle. "
Ford lost out on a huge amount of money," he points out. "And this was money that was raised by SBM's ministry partners -- and it is just very sad that Ford continues to promote this agenda."

Instead, Bennett's ministry purchased a GMC SUV that will be used to crisscross the nation, transporting a ministry team of former homosexuals who will visit churches and give their testimony of freedom from homosexuality through Christ.

Uhm, "Ford lost out on a huge amount of money" because Stephen failed to buy one vehicle (at a discount, no less)?! While we're sure Ford is always sad to lose even one consumer dollar, somehow we think they'll manage to get by without Mr. Bennett's one purchase!

Although we are always pleased to hear about the buying habits of our conservative opposition. Be sure to look for future One News Now stories, wherein Bennett will tell us why everyone should eschew Icy Hot in favor of Ben Gay (whether or not the science backs up his choice or not).

Your thoughts

Stephen, Stephen, Stephen... the man with a new grandiose scheme every few months to define his ministry. He's a recording artist, a talk show host, an evangelist to Israel. He teases about taking a group to the Oval Office. He becomes a pastor (never mentioning seminary, or being ordained) with fundraisers for broadcast equipment and plans for a megachurch. Until 3 months later, when his core mission is serving parents. The sabbatical from travel a year ago was filled with breathless accounts of his autobiography in progress. It was to have been published this year, but seems to have evaporated.

And the car for his traveling roadshow? The fundraising page had a glistening GMC SUV on it all along. More obnoxiously, in my mind, is that he raised the full cash price of a brand-new vehicle in order to go on a 3 month road trip.

Ummm...ever since he's been asking for money for this "ministry" vehicle, he's had a picture of the GMC on his site. Why is he just now saying he went to Ford first? Something's fishy. Of course, that's nothing new with Bennett.

My guess it was an opportunity to bring the Ford boycott from the right back into the light. The whole thing seems a little too obviously a set up against Ford. Seriously, the only way to get a discount is to agree wholly with Ford's diversity policy, otherwise, don't even bother applying? Who would beleive that?

I can't wait until he either comes back out, or is outed, as seems to happen with every last one of these people, including the founders of Exodus.

I want to know how he bought that car when he has been begging for money since last year. It will be interesting to see his tax returns for his no-profit "ministry" to see where some of this cash goes.
