Anderson gets no love from Peter

by Jeremy Hooper

anderson-cooperInsisting that CNN anchor Anderson Cooper showed a pro-gay bias at the recent Republican debate, Peter LaBarbera is now calling for the silver-haired journo to let the American public into his bedroom. Pete says, in part:

If Anderson Cooper is a homosexual, he ought to admit it, for the sake of full disclosure (ditto for secretly homosexual politicians, especially those who call themselves pro-family conservatives). But even if he isn’t — or is but doesn’t want to disclose it — he should return to journalistic impartiality on homosexuality-related stories, or recuse himself from covering them rather than go to bat for the “gay” cause — like he and CNN did in a most unprofessional way at the GOP debate Wednesday night.

Wait a minute? Anderson Cooper owes it to Peter and viewers to make a public pronouncement about who he's schtupping? Well that idea is nuttier than than the genitalia that Andy may or may not like! For while the parlor game of "Is he gay" will continue to follow Anderson until the day that he chooses to address his love life (just as it does with countless other celebs), he has no more of a journalistic duty to talk about his love life than any of his straight reporter peers. His possible gayness is only seen as a conflict of interest if you operate from a mindset that says by living their lives, gays have some sort of an insidious agenda. For the rest of us, most of whom know that seeking societal acceptance is not a gay but rather a human agenda, we understand that a reporter's training and experience are not automatically altered or stymied because they happened to have been born a 'mo.

Anderson is not a policy maker. He's not ruling over a body of people. He's a reporter who covers all of the varied issues that permeate the world's landscapes. He, as all humans, clearly have personal ideas regarding the matters which they are covering. But it is both unfair and unethical for Peter to use the gossip that has surrounded Mr. Cooper against him regarding his merits as a fair journalist. It's the sort of intellectually lazy attack that could only gain ground among those who view journalistic fairness as giving equal credence to even the most unscientific and unsupported of anti-gay ideas.

Does CNN’s Anderson Cooper Have a Conflict of Interest on ‘Gay’ Issues? [AFT]

***SEE ALSO: Pete has gunned for Anderson before.

***Oh and another thing: If Anderson WERE to come out, are we really supposed to believe that would appease Pete? No way! His every move would then be scrutinized by Pete and his ilk for the rest of his career. In fact, that might serve as one reason why a gay journalist would be reluctant to come out (be it a valid one or not).

Your thoughts

I thought they preferred people stay in the closet.

Patrick: It sounds like a total baiting. It seems Pete wants to be the Mike Rogers of his movement, and out the ones who he thinks are showing "hypocrisy" by being gay and in a career that demands fairness.

Sounds like Pee-ter wants to find out whether or not Anderson has an extensive gay porn collection, and kinky leatherman suits, like himself.

Out of all the men in the world, why would anyone want to know what Anderson Cooper gets up to in the bedroom anyway?

I'd rather hear Mario Lopez's confessions! LOL ;) ;)

I watched the gay-related portions of the debate. I think it's really, REALLY a stretch of the imagination to claim that Anderson was in any way unproffesional. If anything negative could be said it is that the candidates got off too easy with their non-answers about Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

Cooper probably dosen't even know who Peter is, like most people. Peter reminds me of a baby jumping up and down on a bed looking for attention, and basically no one really takes him seriously, so he will keep on whining.

Now maybe we all are looking to close at this, I mean Peter is somewhat obcessed with Gay sex, and wants to know who is gay, I mean if it wasn't for the lies he tells, he sounds just like my ex, maybe he has a thing for silver haired guys.
