Wherein we Re-Pete our stance
In a piece in he questions some wording recently employed by the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins (addressing the same "Washington Update" post that we've already criticized for different reasons), professional anti-gay activist Peter LaBarbera makes the following proclamations in regards to same-sex civil unions:
The gap between traditional marriage (i.e., normalcy) and “civil unions” is far wider than that between “civil unions” and “same-sex marriage” — a strategic reality of which the more savvy homosexual activists are well aware (even as the Gay Whining Machine complains about a lack of marital “equality”).
...
As this battle moves from state to state, we on the side of God and the natural family should at least be honest about this: government recognition of and mandated benefits for homosexual “couples” is the single most radical step forward in this debate. ”Civil unions” is not a compromise. It’s a prelude to total defeat.
So let's see here: In just two paragraphs, Pete manages to present our unions as abnormal, position our equality-seeking movement as a "Gay Whining Machine," paint our lives as not "on the side of God," write off our families an unnatural, and address all that we've been saying along our long road to acceptance as nothing more than radical rhetoric of a group who's hellbent on defeating righteousness. And in other parts of the above quoted article, he also calls same-sex relationships "disordered," fallaciously presents homosexuality as "changeable and sinful sexual behavior," and says that "God can never approve" of queer couplings. And yet just last night http://www.goodasyou.org/Pete had the gall to say that this writer and this site engages in "name-calling and petty insults," and that our movement is "showing escalating hubris"?! Sorry Pete, but what we are doing is trying to diffuse the hubristic way your movement has demonized our existences for that last many decades! And we are doing so by unapologetically pointing out that your views, at least in the eyes of most every pro-acceptance person, are inarguably cruel, mean-sprited and extremist! That is not us calling you names or being petty; it's us taking a stand for what is of most importance to us: our lives and loves, .
Even more than many others in his "pro-family" movement, Pete swims in waters that leave absolutely no room for the possibility that maybe, just maybe, his interpretation of a handful of Biblical "clobber passages" does not tell the full full tale. If that sort of aggressive myopia is not hubristic, then we don't know what is.

Your thoughts
Pete doesn't engage in name-calling and petty insults. He (and his mindless followers and co-conspirators) engages in character assassination and profound insults.
