8 years older yet none the more society-wrecking
Eight years ago today, the Vermont Supreme Court issued their landmark ruling saying that gay couples were entitled to the same benefits and protections as wedded couples (which, of course, led to civil unions in the Green Mountain State).
Eight years ago today, Americans were also concentrated on Y2K and all the pre-00 hysteria that surrounded it.
So on this day in 2007, we would just like to acknowledge those things that were predicted to wreak havoc on the world and cause complete and utter chaos for life as we know it, yet ultimately proved the fearmongery types wrong with their inconsequential nature. Be it the inability of computers to deal with with a millennial shift, or the inability of heterosexuals to carry out their business when the gays encroach upon their territory, the waning days of 1999 surely brought about fears in some. Yet the days and years following showed that the hubbub was much ado about nothing. We've long recognized Y2K as being much ado about nothing; here's hoping 2008 will be the year the vast majority FINALLY admits the same about two dudes or chicas saying some version of "I do."
