WBC's debt halved; assload of cash still potentially owed

by Jeremy Hooper

200802041545-1From the "uh-oh, this isn't good for the Phelpses' finances" department: The much debated $10.9 million verdict that was rendered against Westboro Baptist Church back in November has been upheld by a federal judge. The judge has, however, lowered the total damages to only $5 million:

Judge halves amount of damages Westboro church must pay [Balt Sun]

Ooh, but $5 mil -- that's still a hefty pricetag! Although there is still hope for the Phelps Family vacation fund, as an appeal by the church to completely overturn the verdict is still pending.

So will they ultimately have to pay, or will America's First Family of "Fag-Hating"™ get to keep their cash for all of their insane web domain hosting/ disturbing sign creation/ disgraceful picket traveling needs? We promise to keep you posted.
