Why must progressive yins have regressive yangs?

Earlier today we saw this charming little YouTube video about a new pro-gay billboard campaign underway in the UK:

Then, hours later, Queerty tipped us off to the less-than-charming news that the very same billboards depicted in the above video are being met with anti-gay graffiti:
