Former Doritos pitchman says sorry for cheesy bit

Picture 11-68Responding to the resounding outcry, "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno has apologized for his recent on-air calls for guest Ryan Phillippe to show him his "gayest look." Leno says in a newly issued statement:

"In talking about Ryan's first role, I realize that what I said came out wrong," ..."I certainly didn't mean any malice. I agree it was a dumb thing to say, and I apologize."

"Came out wrong" -- perhaps not the best wording to use when making amends to the gay community. But hey, at least he is addressing and taking ownership of the stupid bit. Now if Conan's warm-up act would just make amends for running about 59 minutes too long every night, we'd be good.
