Rabbi thinks we're rabid

by Jeremy Hooper

200804231335Happy Passover, Jewish queers:

Rabbi calls for 'rehabilitation of gays'

Homosexuality is a disease that should be treated, the chief rabbi of KIryat Ono, near Tel Aviv, wrote in response to a letter from the gay community published in Ynet weeks ago.

"It is doubtlessly a disease, seeing as anything in nature that deviates from the norm is a disease," wrote Rabbi Ratzon Arussi, referring to homosexual tendencies. He was responding to a letter sent to dozens of rabbis throughout Israel by operators of a website catering to the homosexual community, HOD.

"We must make an effort to act in an intelligent way so that those who have homosexual tendencies are treated and rehabilitated ," the rabbi wrote. He called for all rabbis to assist homosexuals in their communities that "can find no cure."

But then again, why should a Jewish man feel any need to hold off on casting cruel judgements about the unfit nature of a whole community of people? After all, what experience could he possibly have with being cast off as a pariah?

First They Came for the Gays

First they came for the Gays
and I did not speak out
because I was not Gay.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.
by Pastor Martin Niemöller revised by me.....
Glad to be gay.

"anything in nature that deviates from the norm is a disease"

Isn't this what Hitler and Goebbels said about the Jews - like himself? Somebody needs to remind him of that.

In the United States... our DSM (eg Manual of Mental Disorders) removed Homosexuality as a disorder in l974. The current DSM IV lists only 'distress' caused to the individual themselves by their orientation to be a disorder... a sexual identiy disorder.
If the person is happy in his orientation/gender role... (or as happy as they can be in this increasingly polarized society) then there is NO DISORDER. Period.

"It is doubtlessly a disease, seeing as anything in nature that deviates from the norm is a disease,"

nature as in the way its written in that little book not how it actually is in the... natural world (because the countless animals along with humans who natural practice homosexuality are some how an artificial construct).

"We must make an effort to act in an intelligent way..."

Thats the first real intelligent thing you've said Rabbi.
