'Advocate': Barrett, Jon to bear it, EIC title

by Jeremy Hooper

200805231518Attention lovers of non-porn periodicals that you still might receive in plastic wrap: There's a regime change coming to The Advocate. Towleroad and Queerty bring us the news that Jon Barrett, previously the Features Director of O at Home magazine (among other projects), is set to take over the Editor-in-Chief reigns of the venerable LGBT newsmag from outgoing EIC Anne Stockwell:

Jon Barrett Named Editor-in-Chief of The Advocate [Towle]
Jon Barrett New Editor At The Advocate [Queerty]

It remains to be seen what new topics will get the go-ahead under Barrett. Though considering his past gig involved an "O at Home," it sounds to us like an issue on the ins and outs of masturbation within the confines of one's abode just might be in the pipe.

Your thoughts

The O crack isn't quite fair -- Jon was the Senior News Editor at The Advocate for six years, and he wrote a book on Mark Bingham and co-wrote Evan Wolfson's Why Marriage Matters. He's old hat at hard news and the Big Issues. He was my editor at The Advocate; he's a pro.

Ted: "O at Home." It was just a silly joke, meant to play off having an "O (as in orgasm) at home." It wasn't a comment on Jon's abilities (of which I am both aware and respectful).

Ohhh. Sorry -- I didn't get the joke. I can be daft sometimes!
