Pot to Kettle: 'You're militant, rich, and political!'
Oh why can't our opposition ever stop and say to themselves, "Wait a minute -- aren't we doing the very thing that we're accusing the gays of doing?"
We ask this after seeing the following blurb over on Focus on the Family's CitizenLink site:
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), a gay-activist group, is ramping up its efforts ahead of the election.
As part of the "Year to Win" initiative, HRC plans to train thousands of people in 13 cities.
"Their main purpose for existence is to influence public policy and politics, and to get people elected to office who are going to push their militant homosexual agenda," said Matt Barber, policy director for cultural issues at Concerned Women for America.
Brad Miller, director of the Family Policy Council department at Focus on the Family Action, said family advocates could face an uphill battle. HRC has an annual budget of more than $50 million.
He said grassroots groups and churches must get involved in the political process.
Okay,
(1) Influencing public policy and politics is what everyone in this so-called "culture war" is trying to do. Focus on the Family and Concerned Women For America do this every single day of their lives. And, unlike our side, their campaigns carry the added bonus of condemnation for actual human lives, as well as pseudo-science mumbo jumbo that tells those humans that they are in need of "change." So they aren't only trying to influence public policy -- they are trying to shape biological truth so that it more accurately fits their narrow worldviews!
(2) Regardless of what HRC's budget is in any particular year, it PALES IN COMPARISON to Focus on the Family's! FOF has a budget in the ballpark of $150 million (possibly even more in recent years)! They have a network that trumps all of our national groups combined! Organizations that live in behemoth Colorado Springs headquarters behemoths really should not throw stones!!!!!
(3) We want to get people elected who will push our supposedly "militant" agenda? Oh, you mean like the way the religious right has for the past few decades been threatening any Republican candidate who doesn't cater to their faith-based agenda?! The one that is so militant, it wants to legislate morality for a supposedly church-separated nation while hiding under the guise of "religious freedom"?!
Good mother of nonsense, do these people not hear themselves speak?!? What next, are they going to attack us for using our right to vote, breathing oxygen to fuel our work, or using an arsenal of reasoned knowledge to embolden our side's claims?
Actually, on second thought: They can quite accurately call us out for having an unfair advantage on that last point.

Your thoughts
The FOF numbers don't even include the profits that Dobson makes on those books that he writes. My read of their financials shows Dobson reimbursing FOF to the tune of $7+ million a year for hocking his books during their broadcasts. I would imagine that the reimbursement is some percentage of the total sales, so his end of it could be quite substantial.
