America as it is, and THIS is the George we need to recall?!

by Jeremy Hooper

Well there "stay" was unsuccessful and there attempt at a constitutional amendment is still to be determined. But what will be the far-right's next temper tantrum over the California marriage ruling? Well check out this site we just stumbled upon:

Picture 14-47

Yes, that's right -- it looks like some are beginning the procedure to have Republican appointed Chief Justice Ron George removed from office, simply because Mr. George had the "audacity" to cast an opinion that goes against their personal beliefs. And why wouldn't they? After all, there are just scores of unlit torches and pitchforks available in California just waiting for an angry mob!

It remains to be seen if this bastardization of the recall process will have any legs. For the sake of the judiciary, reasoned dissent, gay equality, the fair-minded reputation of California citizens, and our own annoyance levels, we certainly hope not.

State high court refuses to put same-sex ruling on hold

Wednesday, June 4, 2008
(06-04) 12:42 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- The California Supreme Court refused today to put its ruling allowing same-sex marriages on hold until the issue goes before state voters in November, clearing the way for gay and lesbian weddings to begin June 17.
The justices' unanimous vote to deny a stay sought by two conservative organizations will allow thousands of same-sex couples, from California and other states, to marry before the Nov. 4 vote on a state constitutional amendment that would overturn the ruling. If the amendment passes, the court will have to decide whether those marriage are valid.
