If FOF won't post our entry, we'll do it ourselves

by Jeremy Hooper

Picture 11-75Yesterday, in a followup to an earlier post about a "Superdad" contest being held by Focus on the Family in affiliation with Tivo, we told you how the gay-unfriendly guardians at FOF are blocking entries honoring gay or gay-supportive dads. But since seeing is believing, we thought we'd go ahead show you an example of the type of "controversial" dad-honoring entries that FOF is taking it upon themselves to deem unsuitable for the contest.

Below is an entry that this writer submitted to the contest's "18 & older" category, yet which FOF has refused to post alongside all the others:

What a family-unfocused heathen I am! Good thing FOF has kept me from the impressionable eyes of the "good" people.

Am I canceling Tivo or not?

Will Tivo allow any pro-gay organization "partner" with it?

Dave: I don't think it's that simple. IMHO, Tivo holds no malice towards gay people or gay families. I think they just fail to understand the true extent of FOF's wrongs. It's easy for those of us who follow the "pro-family"-enacted "culture war" to take it for granted that everyone knows about these groups and their anti-gay actions. However, many do not. And so it seems Tivo has affiliated themselves with FOF (though the extent of the alliance is debatable), only focusing on the group's work to present (their version of) wholesome programming to children. We are trying to educate them as to why this is deeply offensive to so many LGBT people.

Norm: I have discussed this with a Tivo rep, and there is enthusiasm around the idea. We'll see.
