Knight 'harbors' ill will

by Jeremy Hooper

To drive home his prediction that same-sex marriage will someday lead to a "sky-falling" even if the heavens don't come crashing down immediately, longtime gay rights foe Chicken Little Robert Knight has made the following comments:

I was debating the marriage issue on college campuses with former Human Rights Campaign leader Elizabeth Birch [in the spring and summer of 2004], and I recall her beginning one presentation by noting that the natural elements had remained intact in the Bay State following the beginning of “gay marriage.”

She assured the young audience, which soaked up her utterly illogical argument, that the “sun still came out, the birds still chirped and the flowers still bloomed,” or something to that effect.

Well, the birds chirped and the flowers bloomed in Pearl Harbor on December 8, 1941, as the American fleet lay smoldering.

200806180814-1Yes, that's right -- Robert Knight is seriously drawing a comparison between the aftermath of Massachusetts' marriage equality and the infamous bombing of Pearl Harbor. Because seriously, what could be more analogous? A legal vow of monogamous commitment vs. the murder of thousands of soldiers -- tomato, tomahto.

Though personally we're still waiting for the passage of federal hate crimes legislation, at which point we hear Mr. Knight will make the oh-so-apt comparison between the crumbling towers of 9/11 and the crumbling pillars of religious freedom.

Your thoughts

I love that 'shopped pic. Hell, those two lovebirds have been together long enough that maybe Knight is correct -- Phyllis and Del might have been the cause of Japan's bombing of Pearl Harbor (or at least the anticipation of their relationship).

I'm waiting for someone to explain how the flooding of the midwest is due to the coastal states' recognition of same-sex couples. You know, how god is punishing Wisconsin for California's misdeeds? I figure Camenker could link the floods to Massachusetts' gay couples, but I haven't heard Robertson or Hagee open their mouths lately. (Although I'd expect more from Iowa given that "activist" judge's pro-equality ruling a year or so ago.)

I love that they have ads on the Townhall website for Realjock.com (a gay fitness website). I thought that was kind of odd right next to Robert Knight's comments. Are they targeting all the larry craigs out there? :-)
