GLAAD, ABC, LGBT: One acronym applauds another for embracing a third

200807141005The GLAAD organization describes their Network Responsibility Index as an evaluation of the quantity, quality and diversity of images of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people on television. And for the second year in a row, ABC has taken the top spot on it:

GLAAD Network Responsibility Index: Primetime Programming 2007 - 2008 [GLAAD]

As for the other broadcast nets: The CW, CBS, NBC, and Fox ranked 2-5 (in that order). And in terms of the 10 cable networks monitored (a list of which neither Bravo nor Logo were part), FX took the high position there.

But what is the gayest television set in the nation? Well that is one that can only be turned on by a gay dude or a lesbian, yet is completely turned off whenever it surfs over to "The 700 Club." Oh, and it's definitely not a plasma, as gay men aren't even allowed to donate that substance.

**In other GLAAD news: The organization has launched a new series called Talking About, which is intended "to help people better understand several key issues of importance to our community." That's also worth a looksie:

GLAAD TA's 'interesting'. I am new as a vocal advocate, other than as I have always been in my medical practice. Presumably the Glossary terminology is up to date, eg gay people, gay couples, bi, gender identity, orientation, etc.? As this is to be instructional material to use with non-supporters, not each other.

Certainly, couching all discussion in terms of typical life values, need for safe home and work environments, caring for others etc are very valid. And of course, telling specific stories.

Thanks for the tip JH
