The road to 'Gov. Gav': Newsom gets exploratory
San Francisco mayor and gay rights hero Gavin Newsom has officially filed papers to form an exploratory committee for a possible 2010 gubernatorial run:

In reaction to the news, California social conservatives have officially begun exploring Nevada and Oregon.
