Because 'Gays for B.O' would've stunk

Picture 17-40I wanna take a sec and direct you to LGBT For Obama, a new site where LGBT voices are coming together to share why they think Barack Obama would be the better presidential choice for queer America. Yours truly has even contributed a little something to the site:

Human Dignity and the Sanctity of Life [LGBT For Obama]

Whether you're a fully converted Obamamite, a Hillary backer still hopeful for some last minute reprieve, a McCain fan convinced that gays just need to see your guy in the way that you do, a Bob Barr backer with pie-in-the-sky dreams, or an apathetic citizen whose November 4 choices are limited to Jack Daniels or Captain Morgan, we hope you'll check out this new rainbow-laden venture. There's food for thought on the line, even if you're not yet ready to swallow it hook, line, and sinker:

LGBT For Obama

Your thoughts

I plan to vote for Obama. Now, having said that, I am under no illusions that he is my friend. He wants to win an election, and he will pander, slice and dice, trim positions, toss LGBT's off his bus (or under it) to win. As gays, we must never think we are not expendable. We are. Vote for the lesser evil, by all means, but don't ever think the Democratic Party wants to be your friend. They just want your vote.

I don't disagree with you, myroro. But the same couple be said for a number of groups. We're not the only ones in the expendable boat.

Touché. Well played, sir.

Left comment there. Did find this statistic from this AM's news interesting.

(Washington) A new poll shows that among LGBT registered voters Democrat Barack Obama has a clear lead - with 68 percent favoring the Illinois Senator
Ten percent of those surveyed support McCain, while three percent favor Ralph Nader and one percent supports Bob Barr. Three percent chose “other.” Fifteen percent of all LGBT voters still are not sure which candidate to support.

and then there are many of us who are so disgusted that we won't even bother to hold our nose on election day.

Obama is still the candidate to vote for, of course, but he sure is making it hard to have any enthusiasm.
He was not prepared for the Saddleback church masacree and did not do well (in my opinion).

He does not defend gay issues and seems to be pandering to the right to get votes. I'm disgusted by his actions; yet, we've just got to elect him because the McCain alternative is a nightmare. McCain makes me puke.

We're faced with the conundrum of selecting the best of two evils. Sadly, that's getting to sound all too familiar in US politics.

"A national poll released Wednesday by Reuters/Zogby showed McCain beating Obama 46 to 41 percent, an advantage that also shows that voters now see McCain as stronger on economic issues. The latest poll erased the strong seven-point advantage held by the Democrat just last month. Other polls had the race statistically tied."

You guys probably all saw this earlier, but McCain has pulled ahead in the Reuters Zogby poll. I thought that I had heard it wrong the first time. You can never really put a lot of stock in polls that are based on a little over a thousand people. Bearing in mind that they are only the ones that didn't hang up when they learned that it was an opinion poll.

And the poll has a margin of error of 3% - so that could put them at a tie. The other poll out today showed Obama ahead, but only if you include the "leaning toward" responses. But, until the fat lady sings, we shouldn't take anything for granted.

I do have to add, though, that I can't understand anyone considering McCain "stronger on economic issues." That, by and of itself, to me, indicates that the results are skewed by the aforementioned sampling error - but, I fully admit that I have overestimated the intelligence of the populace before.

I personally will never forgive Obama for allowing Patti LaBelle, I mean, Donnie McClurkin, to get on his stage, lisp gospel songs, and talk shit about gay people. Especially when the "ex-gay" queen has called violence towards gay people, prior to then.

If Obama can waste time on that garbage, he can waste some time on gay people, outside of talking to GLBT crowds. Until then, he can go fuck himself AND his likely DL relationship with Patti.

Congratulations, Jeremy!

I'm losing a good deal of my enthusiasm for Obama, but I actually liked his responses at Saddleback. I like how he thinks out loud, and his responses were those of a person who lives in the real world. McCain's were pure black and white. Good for pandas and zebras, awful for presidents. And of course, as for "stronger on economic issues," I don't think I can use that term for anyone who can't tell, off the top of his head, the precise number of houses he and his wife own.

I also hated Obama's having McClurkin on, and I hate his Godly pandering. But I'm not seeing any better options, and I see several worse options. (Even Bob Barr, the Libertarian candidate, opposed the rights of Wiccan soldiers to observe their religion on military bases--Google it.)

As I'm not American, I always feel bad telling people what I think about candidates in America. (glass houses)
I advise, that even if you are not 100% behind your man, (politically :P ), vote.
Just get out there and vote.

"As I'm not American, I always feel bad telling people what I think about candidates in America"

Don't, Corvidae. From an outside looking in perspective, you can likely present refreshing new insight that we might not see.

If Obama has to slice-and-dice, twist and twirl, bob and weave, name your poison, to win this election, then he should do it! What matters is becoming the next President of the United States.

Adlai Stevenson stayed above the fray twice, '52 and '56, and watched from the sidelines as the Republicans (and Nixon!) sat in power.

We can't afford more of the same the next four years.

The problem Chris is that he has been running on the idea he is not like everyone else... Don’t get me wrong I am going to vote for him, but I can’t say I am enthusiastic or excited about him; I would rather work against McCain than for Obama at this point if that makes any sense.

In the sense of fairness and recognition of divergent viewpoints, I should point out that I have written several pieces forcibly criticizing Obama for his marriage stance. And I still feel the exact same way -- I find his insistence on connecting the ancillary concept of religion to CIVIL marriage downright deplorable. It gives unfair credence to our opposition, while doing nothing to those of us who are fighting for CIVIL liberty.

Here's something I wrote for Logo on the day after their '07 presidential forum:
