New 'Advocate': Bigger, thicker, monthlier

200808220815-1The Advocate, that venerable glossy that has kept gays informed for over four decades, will apparently undergo some changes now that they have a new owner and a new Editor-In-Chief. Like switching to a monthly, for one. Oh, and focusing more on bigger, newsier stories for another.

The monthly change isn't expected to begin until January '09, so it'll remain biweekly for the time being. Which sort of reminds this writer of his own college experience, when he weakly identified as bi even though everyone already knew his true gay identity would be revealed within months. But I digress.

Best of luck, new Advocate. May your days be more like the new VW Beetle, less like New Coke.

Sigh, the good old days of college. I can completely relate to the bi/gay story. I hadn't thought about that for a while. LOL, so funny in retrospect.

Heh. I had the opposite college experience. Identified as hard-core 100% gay until sophomore year, when I finally came to accept that I was attracted to folks of all genders. It was weird to come out a second time. Some people were really upset, feeling that I had been "deceiving" them. Which, of course, is the reaction that made me afraid to come out again in the first place.

I'm looking forward to the changes. Hopefully this means they'll make it less skanky. The summer sex issue always embarrasses me. Come on! Being gay doesn't mean I'm thinking about sex all the time! I want some NEWS in my news.

Also, isn't The Advocate semiweekly, not biweekly?
