SHOCKER -- The AFA is annoyed with a company

by Jeremy Hooper

This from the American Family Association:

"Hallmark Greeting Cards has announced it will begin selling same-sex wedding cards, even though same-sex marriage is legal in only two states. The purpose, they say, is to satisfy consumer demand. It appears that their purpose is also to push same-sex marriage. Last year Hallmark began offering "coming out" cards - as in "coming out of the closet" -- a euphemism for announcing homosexuality.

We've all given or received Hallmark Cards – remember their slogan – "when you care enough to send the very best." But promoting same-sex marriage for profit is not the very best for families or our nation.

Hallmark is a private company obviously driven by greed. Let them know you do not appreciate Hallmark promoting a lifestyle which is illegal in 48 states. American Greeting Cards, Hallmark's competitor, does not offer same-sex marriage cards."

Wait, a company is "driven by greed" if they create a product that might expand their customer base? And marriage and commitments now constitute a "lifestyle"? Gee, AFA -- is there even a moment of pause clear-thinking pause before you all type these sorts of things, or have your desires to demonize completely trumped any and all hesitation?!

But in a way, we don't blame the AFA for moving focus towards Hallmark. After all, if our much ballyhooed boycott was failing as much as their McDonald's one currently is (with the company's stock up again today), we too would want to move on.

Hallmark pushes same-sex marriage [AFA]

**Oh, and one state's failure to recognize another states' legal unions doesn't even really make those unions "illegal." It just makes the unrecognized by that particular jurisdiction. A California same-sex marriage that is performed within the state of California is 100% legal, regardless of other states' marriage recognition laws. And in fact, in states like New York, these unions ARE fully recognized! So for a number of reasons -- including, also, the fact that the cards only recognize commitments and not specifically marriage -- the "illegal in 48 states" figure is a gross overstatement.

Your thoughts

"driven by greed"

And Don Wildmon isn't driven by greed for cash, and greed for control over everyone's sex lives and personal business?

Don - please go back to scouring the bargain bin movies at Wal-Mart, so you can announce which ones people need to "ban" from their collection.

So hallmark offers same sex marriage cards and that means they are pushing gay marriage? so by that leap I guess offering condolence cards means they are promoting death?

I'm tempted to look at other gay friendly companies and buy up "Boycott____.com, .net, .org" so that they'll have to buy the addresses from me if they want to have such a website.
So, so tempting.

The American "family" association says ""Hallmark Greeting Cards has announced it will begin selling same-sex wedding cards, even though same-sex marriage is legal in only two states".

They forget that equal marriage is legal across all of Canada and that Hallmark sells cards here too. Its not as tiny a market as they would like to suggest.

Damn hallmark for pushing the recognition of peoples birthdays and "getting well" when there sick or injured.

I usual ignore these stupid things but i decided to use AFA's automated e-mail letter to send Hallmark a thank you note.
