Destroying Prop. 8: A coast-to-coast fight

200809231649-1San Francisco's Mayor Gavin Newsom and New York's Gov. David Paterson are both on the left side of the country, politically. Now the two will meet on the right side of the country, geographically, to hold a swanky Manhattan fundraiser in opposition to California's Proposition 8. This from 365Gay:

Funds raised to support a California ban on same-sex marriage are outpacing funds to defeat the ban and keep gay marriage by nearly a third, so San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will head to New York on Thursday to seek cash.

Newsom will host a fundraising event with New York State Gov. David Paterson. Tickets are going for $5,000 per person.

Even if Rosie O'Donnell is over on Broadway doing a special one night performance of Xanadu to benefit Planned Parenthood, you're unlikely to find a more lefty night on the town than the Paterson-Newsom affair. So if you're a progressive New Yorker who hasn't seen your funds decimated by the economic turmoil and who hopes to not see anyone's equality decimated by majority tyranny, then fork over some dollars to dine with boys. Food, drinks, and politics will all be served liberally.

**NOTE: You can contact us if you want further information about attending the Park Ave. event.

Your thoughts

For $5,000, the gift bag better include Shia LaBeouf or Hunter Parrish.

I think you should all consider the backlash that will happen once prop 8 passes. Canada, Massachusetts, Etc. are all experiencing unheard of outbreaks of disease, pedophilia, crime, etc. along with increases in divorce, children with one parent, etc. Also, did you know that once Gay Marriage passes, that means that it will be mandated in schools that they teach our children that homosexuality is NORMAL and ACCEPTABLE and that homosexual feelings should be explored and encouraged?!?! What are we doing people? Schools cannot even say the word father or mother because it is discriminatory! Are we MAD!? Marriage certificates will not say bride and groom but Party A and Party B. EDUCATE YOURSELVES! DON’T LET MAINSTREAM MEDIA BE YOUR WAY OF DECIDING. PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS AND DO NOT LET 4 JUDGES OVERTAKE THE PEOPLES VOTE. IT WILL ONLY GO DOWN HILL FROM HERE. STOP THIS OUTRAGEOUS BEHAVIOR FROM OUR GOVERNMENT. Please, visit http://www.protectmarriage.com and read before you vote. It is the responsible thing to do.
Thank you.
