Degeneres and Prop 8: She's doing an Ell of a job

by Jeremy Hooper

Picture 8-111Daytime disher Ellen Degeneres is back again today with yet another anti-Proposition 8 message. Two of them, in fact.

First, the celesbian extraordinaire has posted the following impassioned plea to her show's official website:

Don't Discriminate -- No on 8!

Hey everybody. There’re only a couple weeks left before we vote. In California there’s a proposition that’s trying to take away my right to be married. And if it passes, my marriage will probably no longer be valid.

The supporters of Proposition 8 have raised more than $25 million just to discriminate against same-sex couples who want to get married. That’s a lot of money.

I can think of 25 million other uses for all that money:

- How about paying teachers more?
- What about helping those people who just lost their homes in the recent fires?
- How about buying a pony for every child in California? How much fun would that be?!

Don’t let them convince you that discrimination is okay just because they can pay for a commercial. It’s wrong. Please vote NO ON PROPOSITION 8! I’m begging you. If you vote no on Prop 8, I’ll buy you a pony.

Don't Discriminate -- No on 8! [Ellen]

Also, Ellen will on today's show lash out at Pitbull Palin for being such a "maverick" on the issue of a federal marriage amendment. Here's that video:

Nice! But if you think these calls for fair-mindedness are strong, just wait until election week itself. Guests Lauren Conrad and Paula Deen (and their publicists) will be left dumbfounded when the married lesbian follows up every last anecdote with the words, "You plannin' on messing with my marriage? Because I'll hurt ya. Yea, that's right -- you'll never have a pre-interview-scripted schmooze in this town again! " We can't wait!

Your thoughts

I love Ellen! I'm so glad she's fighting this thing, I mean she is really #1 in being consistent with it over anyone else that I can think of. She quickly comes to mind. Good for her! Keep going!

I love what you had to say in this video clip; it was put so well! I'm voting No 8! But I think if it does pass ~ it will get thrown out! I don't think it will stick! I truly hope the best for you!
