Video: Hey anti-gays -- stop taking license with the truth

by Jeremy Hooper

It's one thing to find levity in this whole "culture war" fight. Heck, that's what makes this site tick. However, the essence of good comedy is truth, and this video is complete and utter bullcrappy:

It's bullcrappy, because the license language has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RELIGIOUS CEREMONY! "Bride," "groom," "man," "woman," "wife," "husband," "spouses," "life companions" -- nobody mandates the words that an officiant chooses to use in describing the marrying couple! But the "protect marriage" team is SO DESPERATE to link civil marriage with religious custom that they completely ignore the facts. And why not? A faith community manipulated by fear is a faith community rallied.

Linking the language of the civil marriage license with the phrasing of the optional religious ceremony is kind of like saying the language of a state-issued drivers' license informs the make and model of the optional car. Unfortunately for the duplicitously-named "protect marriage" crowd, neither licensign-linking argument would hold up to reasoned, civil scrutiny. Ya know, the same kind of reasoned, civil scrutiny that they are working day and night to regress.
