Bias: The choice of a past generation

by Jeremy Hooper

The American Family Association, a group who will boycott a company whose CEO even vomits in rainbow colors, has found a new receptacle for their misplaced ire. This from an AFA release:

Images Columns06 Images Pepsi-New-Generation-(Small)PepsiCo gives $500,000 to promote the gay agenda in workplace
Company ignores two requests from AFA to discuss Pepsi's support of gay groups.

Pepsi has given Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) a half-million dollars to help push the homosexual agenda in the workplace.

Pepsi has a long tradition of financial support for homosexual groups. According to Jacqueline Millan, director of PepsiCo Corporate Contributions, "We are delighted to continue our partnership with PFLAG...(in) promoting the necessary message of inclusion to untapped groups...and that is a crucial step toward building a healthy working environment."

Despite the fact that 30 states have passed constitutional amendments defining marriage as being between a man and a woman, Pepsi continues to support the efforts by same-sex groups pushing for homosexual marriage.

AFA wrote Pepsi on October 14 and again on October 29 asking the company to remain neutral in the culture war. Pepsi didn't care enough to respond to the AFA letters. Pepsi's lack of response indicates the company plans to continue support for the homosexual agenda.

Ugh. If ever there were a group in need of a touch of this sweet treat, it's the AFA! Yet due to the PepsiCo's "radical" ideas about workers being judged on their merits rather than their orgasms, the anti-gay group is encouraging their followers to "take action" against the cola company. And that, my pals, is more nauseating than that Crystal Pepsi stuff that the company tried to peddle in the early 90's!

**NOTE: The AFA has encouraged their followers to email Chrmn. Indra Nooyi. If you want to do the same, but in support of the company's decisions, Ms. Nooyi's email addy seems to be: indra.nooyi@pepsico.co

I know it's somewhat (okay--EXTREMELY) off topic, but, boy, I remember that Crystal Pepsi...yikes. I think we might still have some glass bottles from it in our basement back home. I remember drinking it one time when I was sick, because we had it and it was clear. In the future, I stuck to ginger ale.

Right, PSUdain? It was gross. It always made me gag!

I actually don;t think ti was so much the taste, but the visual disconnect. My head would expect a Sprite and my tastebuds would be a syrup Pepsi.

Here's what I sent:

Dear Ms. Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi,

Thank you so much for being a significant GLBT Ally. Apparently, the far right AFA wrote a message asking people to deride you for providing $500,000 to PFLAG...for their wonderful work all over the country for GLBT' and their Families and Friends.

I am writing to congratulate you sincerely. This election cycle we have taken significant
blows from all over our country showing us supporters of EQUALITY for ALL, that bigotry still sways the majority of Americans.

Well, at least not those under 29...where 70% rejected Prop H8 here in California....

Thank you again for your faithful support of EQUALITY and diversity.

Sincerely,
