Mad as Ell

From Ellen Degeneres:

Picture 4-191This morning, when it was clear that Proposition 8 had passed in California, I can’t explain the feeling I had. I was saddened beyond belief. Here we just had a giant step toward equality and then on the very next day, we took a giant step away.

I believe one day a “ban on gay marriage” will sound totally ridiculous. In the meantime, I will continue to speak out for equality for all of us.

And we know that she, unlike others, really will speak out. Ellen has been fantastic throughout the Prop 8 fight, and she deserves nothing but applause from our community. She gave money, she spoke out, she recorded an ad, she engaged many of her guests (including the candidates) in a dialogue, and she quite publicly got married. Rather than shy away, Ellen rose to the occasion on this one. We thank her.

We're all sad right now but we will laugh again. We are good people. We will not be denied.

My Thoughts on This Historic Election [Ellen]

No one could have said it better. Thanks for that, and thanks for your great website.

"I believe one day a “ban on gay marriage” will sound totally ridiculous."

Tis true. Not too long ago, people thought that marrying blacks and whites was the worst thing in the world.

Now we think that that's ridiculous.

So, we'll just have to keep fighting like our wonderful Ellen. We WILL win.

We won't let ourselves lose.
