No syke: Wanda's an out lesbian

This from The New York Times:

Picture 1-220In Las Vegas, the comedian Wanda Sykes surprised a crowd of more than 1,000 rallying outside a gay community center by announcing that she is gay and had wed her wife in California on Oct. 25. Ms. Sykes, who divorced her husband of seven years in 1998, had never publicly discussed her sexual orientation but said the passage of Proposition 8 had propelled her to be open about it.
“I felt like I was being attacked, personally attacked — our community was attacked,” she told the crowd.

Prop 8 as a catalyst to coming out? Well hey, when life gives you lemons, make lesbianade.

But ya know, we probably should have seen the clues. After all, her 2006 film was called Over The Hedge -- it didn't say anything about being "Over The Bush." [ba da bum]

Your thoughts

I have no gaydar whatsoever, even though I saw her as 'open-minded' - I never saw this coming. Yeah for her courage!

I "knew" she was gay but I had no concrete evidence but I am still so, so very proud of her. It takes courage for anyone to come out, especially those with careers to lose. However, I am even more in love with this super funny lady even more now than ever. Congrats Wanda Sykes, you are a hero today. Btw, my gaydar is the stuff of legends. I can even tell when someone is bi or has had bi experiences but doesn't identify as bi. LOL! Seriously :)

Wanda "coming out" is definitely a huge plus, because IMO she has a much broader audience than Ellen. Ellen appeals to lesbians and women who enjoy shows like Oprah and Dr. Phil. Wanda appeals to young and old, black and white, sober and stoned.

Ellen has always been too dry comedy for my taste (even in her early days as a stand-up comedienne), but Wanda is outrageous and fun! LOL

I've always said my gaydar doesn't work with the British or women. However in this case, it went beep, beep, beep a long time ago.

It's always great to see a talented entertainer come out of the closet.
