Prop 8ers dig Elton's latest tune
Congratulations, Elton John. With the comments you gave to USA Today in which you encouraged USA gays to take alternate routes towards obtaining their full citizenship, you have handed the "yes on Prop 8" side some news for their cause. This from the official "yes on 8" site:
Oh, Rocket Man: Please quit burning out your fuse in ways that keep us more legally alone!

Your thoughts
This is awesome:

In the UK, you are really hard pressed to find any differences between civil marriage and civil unions. Especially since civil unions there are nation wide and their system of government benefits and taxation have been modified to grant the same advantages (and disadvantages) to civil unions as civil marriage enjoys. It's hard to compare the "separate but equal" of the UK with the same doctrine as it applies to State institutions of civil unions here in the US.

I think what's tricky is that this is mostly a UK/US difference. I'm English and in the UK I think it is much more likely for laws to get changed relatively early and with the least controversial wording properly. For example - our abortion laws were bought in almost entirely to reduce back alley abortions they were worded very cautiously to allow 'mental well being' on the mother to be a significant enough reason to make abortion accessable to all. In the US it was a big fight about the rights of women rather than a utilitarian lesser of two evils.
I think the same is true of gay rights - in the UK my guess is we won't ever really phrase it as a huma rights issue, we just plod along upsetting as few people as posible. In the US for things to change you have to make it a fight based on rights and principles.

Please Elton, if you're not going to speak for our side, at least don't give the other side ammo.

Really DUMB remarks from Elton. He has millions. He has a support network. He isn't raising children.... he doesn't realise that he isn't a "normal" person. I'm not talking about his sexuality. Big, bad, off-the-stage-you-go gong for you Mr.

It's probably not news to you, but the CEO of the Cinemark movie chain gave 10,000 dollars to support Prop 8. The chain is based in Dallas. Please make sure you don't attend any movies at a Cinemark and give them a call at hq: 972-665-1000 or 214-696-1644.

Here is something else for their cause.
Political activists/bloggers Wayne Besen and Jasmyne Cannick are going to appear on The O'Reilly Factor tonight.
As you may know, O'Reilly and his Fox News masters have been trying to divert the issue of Prop. 8 into the area of racism. O'Reilly has been demanding a fight between white gays and the African-American community for the past few days.
Apparently, Besen and Cannick are more than happy to oblige!
Cannick recently wrote a racist and misguided op ed piece for the L.A. Times that must have made O'Reilly's week. Now, professional ex-gay Wayne Besen has jumped into the ring with her to do a little tap dance for Rupert Murdock.
Why would any LGBT person with self-respect agree to appear on Fox News? It is obvious that O'Reilly has already scripted a race war within the LGBT community and Cannick and Besen are such shameless media whores that they'll eagerly jump at the chance to appear on TV -- inspite of the obvious slant Fox News is taking.

The Family Research Council has issued an "action alert" via e-mail for people to e-mail Governor Schwarzenegger and request that he NOT support an over turning of Prop 8.
We need to counter this by e-mailing, writing, and calling his office asking him to continue to support Marriage Equality.

I don't think he understands what Civil Unions are in the US. In Europe they are different. In France at least, most people get civil unions (straight or gay) and they have ALL of the same rights. in the US that is not the case. That is why we need marriage. It is the only thing that will bring social and economic equality.

Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships.
Exactly John. Separate but equal.
