'Assault' fakers called out in a Salt Laker's paper

This from Wayne Besen's Truth Wins Out organization:

‘We Refuse To Allow Anti-Gay Activists To Rewrite History and Pose As Beacons of Religious Tolerance,’ Says TWO

NEW YORK – Truth Wins Out (TWO) unveiled a hard-hitting full-page ad today that will be published in The Salt Lake Tribune on Thursday, under the headline, “Lies in the Name of the Lord.” TWO’s provocative advertisement is in response to an ad by anti-gay activists in last Friday’s New York Times, that falsely portrayed protests against Proposition 8 - a ballot measure in California that prohibited same sex couples from marrying – as mob violence. The TWO ad also criticized the culture warriors who ran the Times ad under the name, “
No Mob Veto,” for their disingenuous claim of religious tolerance and their posture as staunch defenders of the Mormon Church.

Morry: Wayne hasn't announced future plans yet. But knowing Wayne, he surely has one.

I would imagine financing is the major variable, since a full page in the Times is $$$.

I like it, especially the fact that it's being put out in Utah, but I wish that TWO would have highlighted some more of the lies/exaggerations that have been made about the LGBT community of late, particularly the ones about Mount Hope Church, the 'christian' group in the Castro, etc. I suppose you can only put so much into a newspaper ad. Maybe they can do a follow-up in the next couple of weeks.

The last time I checked, a full page global black-and-white one time weekday ad in the Times was around $200k, with about a $50k bump for color. Those religious bigots surely have some serious bank behind them. Hopefully the economic downturn will put more of the hatemongers out of business.
