Time Warning: You may soon be 'Rick & Steve'-deprived

200812310928Do you enjoy the queer offerings of the Logo network? Excited that the upcoming season of MTV's "The Real World" features both a gay man and a transwoman? Been obsessed with Spongebob ever since James Dobson implied that he's into dudes?

Well if you answered yes to any or all of the above questions, you better hope that you're not a Time Warner cable customer. If you are, then there's a good chance you will be losing your ability to access all 19 of the Viacom networks (Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, TV Land, VH1, etc.) as of 12:01 AM, when the channels will be given a New Year's kiss-off:

Media giant Viacom Inc. said its Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and 16 other channels will go dark on Time Warner Cable Inc. at 12:01 a.m. Thursday if a new carriage fee deal is not agreed upon by then. 'Colbert,' 'SpongeBob' may go dark on Time Warner [AP via Yahoo!]

Annoying, right? And it doesn't seem to stop at just on-air, either. According to the following pop up that is running on all of Viacom's properties this morning, those Time Warner customers who access Viacom via dot-coms will also be blacked out:

No "My Super Sweet Sixteen" in 2009? Now THAT'S more of American tragedy than the excessive, entitled mentality that the show itself cultivates.

Fix this and fix this now, Time Warner/Viacom!

**UPDATE: They reached a deal

Oh, *that'll* endear them to the viewers.

I never thought I'd say this, but thank the Gods we have Comcast!

Is it legal for them to block online content? Did we loose the net neutrality debate?

Well, as of this writing, it doesn't look as if I've lost any of the channels I had, so either they came to an agreement, or else moved the deadline.
