As Dems enter 'change' era, will GOP stick with 'gays can change' error?
You may know that a man by the name of Ken Blackwell is in the running to become the next chairman of the Republican National Committee. In just two links, we will now show you everything else you need to know about what the Blackwell appointment would mean in terms of the GOP's potential for pro-equality growth
(1) FRC Action's Tony Perkins Endorses Ken Blackwell for RNC Chairman [PR Newswire]
(2) Phyllis Schlafly Endorses Ken Blackwell for RNC Chairman [PR Newswire]
Yes, that's right -- Blackwell has ringing endorsements from both Tony "I've never met a gay-bettering policy I couldn't decry" Perkins and Phyllis "I've wanted to ban my own gay son's marriage since most of you were in diapers" Schlafly. These are two of the most determinedly queer-regressive names on the face of the GOPlanet. Hell, the last time either of those two did something even resembling gay-friendly was when they lifted their self-imposed bans on dining with any couple who just so happened to be named Will &Grace!
But that's not even all. Blackwell has also obtained endorsements from anti-gay players like James Dobson, L. Brent Bozell, and Tim LaHaye. A scenario that would make us laugh, if not for our bone-chilling fear that the far-right is going to rise like a phoenix in 2012 and pick our queer bones of whatever sort of progress we've managed to shake out of the Dem leadership. For that reason, the one that keeps us up at night -- we are still quite scared of any political party that plans to put "causing gays pain" at the top of their priority list. And judging by what we know of Blackwell's prominent cheerleaders, his GOP-steeerd ship would do exactly that!!

Your thoughts
Of all the known choices, Michael Steele is probably the lesser evil. While opposed to marriage equality (something he used as a campaign message), he also has said that the Party should not use this as a litmus test and needs to start appealing to and welcoming those who are fiscally conservative but socially liberal.

Good 'ol Kenny B. He'll be perfect. He just might help speed up making the Republican Party TOTALLY irrelevant. I'll give you an idea just how "popular" he is here in Ohio, when he ran for Gov 2 years ago, he conceded the election 1 hour after the polls closed. It wasn't even close.

Yes, Blackwell is going to burn the party to the ground. Its good for Democrats that the base of the Republican Party is going to make my party irrelevant.
If I was national committeeman or chairman of my state party I would choose Michael Steele for chairman.
I am going to write a column for my blog and send a letter to all three individuals in California.
